Helminth External Mol. Quality Assessment
The scheme consists of 1 distribution per year in which at least 8 ethanol preserved stool specimens are provided. A short case description is given for each sample. Analysis by a Nucleic Acid Amplification Technique (NAAT, such as PCR) for the detection of parasitic worms is requested. Materials are validated for the presence of absence of the following helminths; Ancylostoma spp., Ascaris spp., Necator americanus, Schistosoma spp., Strongyloides stercoralis and Trichuris trichiura. Subsequently, additional theoretical questions are provided that are related to the cases. At the end of each distribution all findings are summarized and discussed in a final report.

This scheme is provided in English only. International participants should be aware that this scheme use ethanol preserved samples, which makes long-distance transport possible. Subscription costs do not include shipment by courier in case the participant is based outside the European Union.
